- How to win a child's heart and realize you're a knitting nut

Ok, the fact that I even searched for this pattern makes me realize I have a problem with knitting. I think I can do anything by knitting.....and/or I can make anything by knitting.....

My soon to be step-son (gosh that's a trip to think about) is a great kid. He's fun, and silly, and fascinated by knitting. I was working on a hat for Daddy last night, and the little one wanted to know when he was going to get his hat. Now he changes his mind all the time about what colors he wants for his hat. Orange, green, orange and green, blue, black, stripes of all colors, big yarn, bigger yarn, green and purple, etc. It changes every time he asks. So I thought, hmmmm, little one likes...nay....LOVES sponge bob (as does Daddy, gotta love hearing them follow every episode, word for word, but I digress). So I thought, hmmmm, wonder if there is a pattern out there for a knit kids cap with sponge bob on it. Well there is not! BUT there is a kid's knit hat pattern that IS sponge bob, and here it is! OMG, I was right, you CAN make anything by knitting!!!! Hmmm, maybe I'll make Daddy one too?!? Naaaahhh, he likes sponge bob, but wouldn't wear sponge bob.

- Mom made a find

Check it out!!! My mom made a cool genealogical find!!! Since starting this look into family history, we've gotten kinda stuck on one side (and one little portion) of our family:

But mainly the Tackitt's and the Millers, they are fascinating:

Fort Tackitt Massacre
Mountain Meadow Massacre

Anywhoo, these few families (paternal side) have got up interested, and mom found the Carroll County, Arkansas history. I've made some good connections over the internet, with cousins, albeit down the line cousins who have some good information.

Genealogy is fun! One of my friends has also gotten interested in genealogy here is her site. She's finding things sporadically, and really enjoying it.

- Knitting shirts

Oh, OH, before I get to the knitting shirts, I forgot to share. My wonderful and thoughtful Mama also got me knitting tags that say "From the knitting needles of Elisa" for me!!! I've been wanting those forever too, and she got 'em. She's super cool!

Now onto our scheduled topic:

Ok, I'm not talking about shirts you knit, but shirts that feature knitting. These are hysterical, and I had to share. When KIP (Knitting in Public) you get all kinds of stares and questions, or overheard comments.

Common comments/questions include:

What are you doing?
Is that crochet?
I could never do that I don't have the patience.
How long is that gonna take?
Why do you knit?
Did your grandma teach you? OR the ever popular "Aren't you a little young to be knitting?"

Knitting shirts:

Prison knits

- Busy, but had some knitting time

Well I've been really busy lately, what with work and the holidays, but I've managed a little knitting time. I've finished the fiber trend clogs for FH (future husband), but I didn't felt them enough, so I've got to do it again. I've also gotten a few dishcloths knitted. They are all made from my old counterpane book, here is a link to an old post about it. here is a link to the book I used. I don't have pictures of the dishcloths I've knitted lately, no time to take and upload pics. But I would highly recommend the book to any knitter.

The counterpane patterns are wonderful for blankets, but they are also great for dishcloths. A good resource, and absolutely beautiful pictures!

I've been obsessing over these needles from knitpicks, here is an up close picture of the needles. They are beautiful, and I've heard/read nothing but great reviews of the from both Knitting help and ravelry! I like to look at these needles and dream. One of these days I'll splurge and get them for myself. The only problem, would be I wouldn't ever want to leave my house, because all I'd want to do is knit, knit, KNIT!!!!!!

Oh and I wanted to point out this blog it's written by a female Episcopalian priest who knits. How very cool!!!!!!!!

- Chanukah ham anyone?!?

Ok, I am providing a link to the pictures of the Chanukah ham. If you haven't heard this story here is a link to it.

Basically a grocery store in New York....yup.....New York, advertised hams on sale for Chanukah. If you don't know why this is funny, and a bit sad, well then I'm can't help you. Sorry.

I just thought this was hysterical, especially in the era of "political correctness".

We've decided on a date. May 31, 2008, it's a Saturday, and I'll update as I have more news. Haven't had much time to post (sheesh, I can't figure out why), but I'll update as I can. :-)
